PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT (TURKISH/ENGLISH)

 

Training in psychology must offer the candidates with basic knowledge of various fields of psychology, the capacity to examine psychological concepts in depth when necessary, and a solid ethical background to instrumentalize them for social benefit.

 

In our department, students receive an education that includes various theoretical perspectives, methods, and application areas of psychology. The duration of this education is 4 years and covers 8 semesters. During this training, students take theoretical and practical courses tailored to their professional aspirations. In addition, they will have the opportunity to take elective courses that support their academic interest. Thus, by their graduation, students will have mastered different psychological approaches and will be equipped in many related fields. After graduation, those who fulfill the necessary requirements will be able to continue their academic development in graduate programs.

Career and Work Areas for Psychologists

Our graduates with BA degree in general psychology can take part in the following jobs or positions from the moment they graduate:

Public, university, and foundation hospitals, prisons, nursing homes, elderly care centers, military institutions, municipalities, governorships, measurement and evaluation centers, psychotechnical laboratories, and community mental health centers. Graduates of our department have diploma equivalence in many countries around the world and our graduates can easily find jobs. However, they can continue their academic education after meeting the necessary conditions for graduate education (e.g. ALES, Foreign Language).

Psychology Department Education

Our curriculum includes basic courses for education in Clinical Psychology, Social or Community Psychology, Educational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Sports Psychology, Experimental/Cognitive Psychology, Child and Adolescent Psychology, Organizational Psychology, and other subfields of psychology. In addition to theoretical education, students are recommended to improve their practical skills in laboratories or State Health Research and Application hospitals with which the protocol has been signed.

The undergraduate program in our department consists of courses worth a total of 240 ECTS, including common compulsory, compulsory, and elective courses. Elective courses constitute at least 25% of the program.

Department Resources

Faculty: Our department comprises 2 professors, 2 associate professors, 10 assistant professors, 1 lecturer, and 4 research assistants.

Opportunities for Graduate Education: We offer a thesis-based Master’s Program in Clinical Psychology, with ongoing efforts to establish a graduate program in Social Psychology.

Classrooms and Laboratories: Our classrooms are equipped with smart boards and projection devices suitable for contemporary educational needs.

Computer Laboratories: We have a computer laboratory consisting of 30 computers.

Seminar Rooms: The Psychology Department has one seminar room available for meetings and seminars.

Library: Students have access to Ankara Medipol University Central Library.

Social and Sports Activities, Clubs, and Communities: Students can participate in various social, sports, cultural, counseling, and guidance activities provided by the Ankara Medipol University Health, Culture, and Sports Department.

Cafeteria and Dining Facilities: The nutrition unit of the Ankara Medipol University Health, Culture, and Sports Department organizes lunch for all students, ensuring balanced and seasonally appropriate daily menus based on students’ nutritional needs.

Erasmus: Our department continues to work on mutual agreements with various universities within the framework of the European Union Socrates/Erasmus student exchange programs.

Laboratories: We have application laboratories in Cognitive (2), Social (1), Developmental (1), and Clinical Psychology (1) subfields. Additionally, there are therapy consultation rooms and a playroom for play therapy applications.
