Speech and Language Therapy
Message from the Head of Department
Language and speech are among the highest-level functions of the human brain. Their development begins in the womb and continues for many years. They are the most important functions that distinguish humans from other living beings, and even the slightest disruption in their development can reduce quality of life. Speech and language therapists are the professionals who monitor the development of these vital functions and specialize in their diagnosis and (re)habilitation.
In our country, a professional career in Speech and Language Therapy is achieved through 4-year undergraduate programs. The Departments of Speech and Language Therapy within the Faculties of Health Sciences at universities aim, through their 4-year programs, to build a solid body of knowledge in key areas such as language, speech, voice and swallowing. Throughout their 4-year undergraduate education, students gain an in-depth scientific foundation in basic medical sciences as well as diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The most important aspects are the content of training programs in diagnosis and (re)habilitation and the complete and accurate application of practical techniques in all their details. Our main goal in our department is to educate our students in line with these principles. With our current academic staff, the quality of our education will continue to rise as we further develop our practical training facilities alongside theoretical courses. Speech and Language Therapists who complete a high-quality education, with their strong scientific background and clinical skills, make positive contributions not only to the language and speech of children and adults in need, but also to their mental, cognitive, social and academic development.
