While obesity, a public health problem worldwide, continues to rise and its link to adolescence signals a serious danger, the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus and the onset of the pandemic have led to numerous measures being taken globally, including social isolation and quarantine. During the COVID-19 pandemic, children staying at home in quarantine and isolation have not been attending school and have continued their education remotely. During the pandemic, physical activity among adolescents has decreased, while computer and internet use has increased accordingly. With distance education delivered via phones, tablets and computers, and activities such as reading, playing games and watching videos becoming the most important part of daily life, obesity has begun to pose a serious risk, particularly for adolescents.
Through this training, the project aims to raise awareness of healthy nutrition and physical activity among adolescents (teenagers), who are in a risk group during the Covid-19 pandemic; to increase the number of trained, qualified personnel in public hospitals serving in Ankara and in educational services affiliated with the Ministry of National Education; and, by serving as a guide for citizens both within and beyond the region, to foster a culture of healthy living in health and education services through healthy nutrition and physical activity training for adolescents during the Covid-19 pandemic, delivered via an innovative, technology-based, collaborative distance education program. Training will be provided through a distance education program to personnel selected from Ankara 29 Mayıs State Hospital and various hospitals operating under the Ankara Provincial Health Directorate, as well as to teachers working within the Ministry of National Education. The aim is to standardize the Healthy Nutrition and Physical Activity Training Program for Adolescents during the COVID-19 Pandemic and to extend the training to other public institutions through distance education.
The implementation process of the “Healthy Nutrition and Physical Activity Training Project for Adolescents during the Covid-19 Pandemic” has begun.
