Public Health Nursing Students Contribute to School Health

Third-year students of the Turkish and English Programs of the Department of Nursing at the Ankara Medipol University Faculty of Health Sciences have successfully completed their school health practice at Mustafa Kemal Anatolian High School, Zeynep Salih Alp Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and Gazi Osman Paşa Primary School in the Yenimahalle district.
During the practice, health education and screenings were provided to a total of 1,525 students at three primary and high schools. The health screenings included height, weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements, blood pressure assessment, and vision and oral and dental health screenings. Based on the screening results, students requiring follow-up were identified and the relevant information was shared with the school administrations.
The health education sessions covered “personal hygiene”, “healthy eating and physical activity”, “interpersonal communication and peer courtesy”, “safe internet use”, “coping with stress” and “time management”. In addition, informative posters were displayed on school notice boards to help students reinforce what they had learned.
The practice was carried out as part of the Public Health Nursing Practice course coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Ayşe ÇAL and the Public Health Nursing Practice course taught by Dr. Neslihan Köse KABAKCIOĞLU, with the contributions of Res. Asst. Kardelen ÖZÇOBAN and Res. Asst. Sezgin GÜVENÇ.
We would like to thank our faculty members, our students and the school administrations we collaborated with for their contributions.
