Public Health Nursing Students Carry Out School Health Practices

Third-year Nursing Department students of our University's Faculty of Health Sciences carried out, as part of the Public Health Nursing course, school health practices. Under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe ÇAL and Res. Asst. Doğukan SÖĞÜT, the students delivered health education and conducted school health screenings at Çankaya Ertuğrul Gazi Secondary School.
As part of the health screenings, 540 pupils received blood pressure measurements, oral and dental health screenings, BCG vaccination checks, BMI calculations, and eye and hair screenings. The screening records were evaluated, and information on pupils requiring follow-up was reported to the school administration. The students delivered health education sessions to all classes on “personal hygiene”, “preventing peer bullying”, “healthy eating and exercise” and “coping with stress and time management”, and put up reminder posters on the school notice boards. In addition, as part of disaster health nursing, they sought to support the secondary school pupils' earthquake preparedness with an earthquake awareness board prepared under the slogan “Be Ready Today for Tomorrow”.
