The core mission of our Faculty is to create an environment that offers students the latest professional knowledge and skills of our time in the most effective way; to educate productive, responsible and virtuous professionals who can think critically, solve problems, demonstrate strong leadership skills, take initiative, communicate effectively and put theoretical knowledge into practice with a high level of competence; and to contribute to the scientific community and society through high-level academic and scientific research and publications in line with its programs.
Vision
The Vision Statement of our Faculty is to be a leading faculty that conducts original work in its field, is recognized in national and international circles, is consulted in the development of plans and policies in its field, and takes pride in being part of Ankara Medipol University.
The Department of Political Science and International Relations examines how individuals, social actors, nation-states and supranational organizations participate in collective decision-making processes on public issues. The department aims to enable students to think critically and analytically about phenomena occurring in the international system. While the courses in political philosophy and analytical political theory (including both qualitative and quantitative methodology) offered in the department help students acquire lenses through which such thinking skills can be enriched, the courses in comparative politics and international relations allow students to reinforce and develop these skills. The department's annual curriculum also adopts a holistic approach that includes interdisciplinary courses. Within this framework, the core learning outcomes of the Department of Political Science and International Relations can be summarized as follows:
- To identify, critically analyze and develop solutions to administrative, economic and political problems in personal and professional settings;
- To formulate arguments effectively in oral, written and graphical form;
- To develop a sustainable, socially inclusive and ethical academic perspective;
- To learn the fundamental concepts and theories needed to formulate and implement creative and effective solutions to local, national and international political problems;
- To develop appropriate research methods for analyzing data in order to assess the validity of foreign policy arguments.
Core Values
Our Department of Political Science and International Relations carries out its education, research and community service activities on the basis of strong institutional values. The department's academic approach is built on an understanding that is committed to universal scientific principles, attentive to the requirements of our time and focused on public benefit.
In this context, academic integrity is emphasized as an indispensable element of all our education and research processes. Transparency, reliability and diligence in the use of sources in ethically grounded scientific work are among our fundamental priorities. Public interest and social responsibility constitute another of our core values. Accordingly, we aim to educate individuals who not only produce knowledge but are also sensitive to social problems—not only in Ankara but throughout our country—capable of developing solutions and committed to the public interest.
Our participatory and transparent management approach is based on valuing the views of academic staff, students and stakeholders in the department's decision-making processes.
As a reflection of this approach, open communication, accountability and collective wisdom form the foundation of all our administrative processes. Freedom of expression and the enhancement of critical thinking skills reflect our goal of creating an academic environment where diverse ideas can be expressed freely, critical thinking is encouraged and pluralism is valued.
Innovation and digital transformation reflect our adoption of educational models that adapt to the changing needs of our time, technology-supported learning processes and innovative research methods. Consistency and predictability ensure that we base our academic and administrative processes on fair, planned and sustainable practices.
Internationalization and intercultural dialogue, made possible by our status as a faculty that delivers education in English, stand out as our strongest values. These two core values support our students and academic staff in becoming individuals who are open to global developments, able to interact with different cultures and capable of contributing to international collaborations.
Finally, sustainability and climate awareness represent an institutional approach that upholds environmental responsibility, values leaving a livable world to future generations and remains sensitive to global environmental problems. In line with these values, our department resolutely maintains a modern, high-quality approach to higher education that contributes to society.
