Introductory workshop on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA)
30 April-01 May 2021
Day I (Full-Day) (13.00-16.00/ 17.00-20.00, GMT+3):
This workshop provides a practical introduction to the experiential, qualitative approach-interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). The aim is that, by the end of the class, attendees will recognise the important principles of the approach and understand the main practical steps involved in a research project using IPA. The workshop will begin with a short example of a study conducted by Professor Jonathan Smith. The best way to get to grips with the value of an approach is to see what it can produce. This will be followed by a brief presentation of the theoretical underpinnings of IPA. Most of the workshop will be taken up with Jonathan guiding participants through the stages of conducting an IPA study: design, data collection, analysis, writing up. There will be opportunities for hands on work by delegates during the class.
Day 2 (Half Day) (10.00-13.00, GMT+3):
The second day of the workshop will constitute published examples of IPA by Mujde. This session would also involve questions and answers.
